Cairo-Egypt and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation, as Cairo hosted the high-level forum on “China–Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Amid Global Changes: Toward Higher-Level Innovation and Development.”

At the summit, China’s Ambassador to Egypt, Liao Liqiang, said the next five years will be “crucial,” with China pursuing modernization as Egypt advances its long-term national development plan. Beijing pledged to work hand-in-hand with Cairo to build a China–Egypt “community with a shared future in the new era.”

From the Egyptian side, officials described Egypt–China relations as a deeply rooted strategic partnership built on shared interests, political will and trust. They expressed expectation that the forum would yield practical proposals and high-value joint projects spanning technology, renewable energy, water management, and industrial cooperation.

Under the renewed agenda, key areas of collaboration include the digital economy and artificial intelligence, renewable energy, seawater desalination and water-resource management, industrial manufacturing and value-added production. These priorities reflect both countries’ efforts to shift beyond traditional trade and infrastructure partnerships toward innovation-led sustainable growth.

China continues to stand out as a major investor in Egypt: more than 2,800 Chinese companies operate in Egypt, with total investments exceeding US $8 billion.

In a world marked by economic uncertainty and shifting geopolitical alignments, the Cairo gathering signals a strategic recalibration for both capitals. For Egypt, it reflects a deliberate push to harness foreign partnership for national development and industrial modernization. For China, it reinforces its interest in reinforcing long-term alliances beyond traditional spheres of diplomacy and infrastructure, leaning into high-tech, sustainable cooperation.
