Addis Ababa, July 21, 2026 — China has increased its support for Africa’s response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak, providing an additional 2.5 million US dollars to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The new contribution is aimed at strengthening efforts to contain the outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, as health authorities work to expand surveillance, emergency response and medical support.
The latest funding brings China’s direct support for the Ebola response through Africa CDC to 4.5 million dollars, according to officials. Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya welcomed the assistance, describing China’s support as a sign of cooperation during a critical health emergency.
The move is part of a broader health partnership between China and African countries, which has included medical teams, training programmes and support for public health institutions. Beijing has previously provided emergency assistance during major disease outbreaks on the continent, including the Ebola crisis in West Africa.
