ENTEBBE, Uganda , October 27, 2026 — Ten Ugandan district officials have travelled to China for a three-week training programme aimed at exploring strategies to reduce poverty, improve agricultural productivity and strengthen rural livelihoods.

According to Uganda’s New Vision, the officials departed from Entebbe International Airport on October 25. The programme, funded by the Chinese government, will expose the delegation to China’s development experience and approaches to poverty alleviation.

The training is expected to cover agricultural modernisation, poverty-reduction policies and strategies for addressing income inequality.

The initiative highlights growing cooperation between China and African countries beyond trade and infrastructure, with increasing emphasis on knowledge-sharing and public-sector capacity building.

For Uganda, the programme presents an opportunity to examine development approaches that could be adapted to local conditions, particularly in communities where agriculture remains a major source of income and employment.

However, translating lessons from China into tangible results will depend on how effectively the officials apply their knowledge after returning home.

The initiative’s ultimate success will be measured by whether it contributes to improved livelihoods, stronger rural economies and better economic opportunities for Ugandan communities.
