Accra, April 2, 2026 — Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with China, signaling continued diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations. Speaking in Accra on Monday, Mahama stated that Ghana stands ready to work closely with China to further advance bilateral ties and explore new areas of mutual benefit.
The remarks were made during a formal ceremony at the presidency, where Mahama received the Letter of Credence from Cong Song, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Ghana. The presentation of credentials marks the official start of the ambassador’s diplomatic mission and underscores both countries’ intention to sustain high-level engagement.

Mahama’s statement reflects a broader trajectory in Ghana–China relations, which have steadily expanded over the years through cooperation in infrastructure, trade, energy, and investment. China remains one of Ghana’s key development partners, playing a visible role in major construction and financing projects across the country. The president’s message signals continuity in this partnership, even as global economic dynamics evolve.
Diplomatic observers note that such engagements often set the tone for future agreements and collaborative initiatives. By emphasizing readiness and openness, Ghana positions itself to benefit from China’s global economic reach while reinforcing its own development agenda. For China, maintaining strong ties with Ghana one of West Africa’s most stable democracies remains strategically significant.
As Ambassador Cong Song begins his tenure, attention is likely to turn toward how both nations translate these diplomatic assurances into concrete outcomes. With shared interests in economic growth and regional stability, the renewed commitment could pave the way for deeper cooperation in the months ahead.
