Beijing, April 16, 2026 — Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of Mozambique, will pay a state visit to China from April 16 to 22 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
A spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry said the visit aims to promote the in-depth development of the China-Mozambique comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
The upcoming visit highlights Beijing’s continued engagement with African partners, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, trade, and energy cooperation. Mozambique, endowed with significant natural gas reserves and strategic access to the Indian Ocean, has emerged as a key partner in China’s economic outreach across the continent.
Diplomatic observers note that the designation “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” reflects a mature and multifaceted relationship, typically involving sustained collaboration in economic investment, political dialogue, and international coordination.
During the visit, President Chapo is expected to hold talks with President Xi and other senior Chinese officials. Discussions are likely to focus on expanding trade, enhancing investment in infrastructure and energy sectors, and strengthening coordination on regional and global issues.
China has played an increasingly prominent role in Mozambique’s development, financing major projects and supporting industrial growth. In turn, Mozambique represents an important node in China’s broader engagement with Africa, aligning with Beijing’s long-term economic and diplomatic strategy.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to reinforce partnerships amid shifting global dynamics, with analysts anticipating announcements that could further deepen economic cooperation and solidify political ties.
