Kigali/Tunis, April 17, 2026 — Rwanda and Tunisia have taken a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations by signing two cooperation agreements aimed at enhancing political dialogue and institutional collaboration. The agreements, which establish a framework for regular political consultations and create a permanent joint commission, signal a shared commitment to deepening diplomatic ties and coordinating efforts across multiple sectors.

This development is particularly notable as it formalizes mechanisms for sustained engagement between Rwanda and Tunisia, positioning both nations to expand cooperation beyond existing partnerships. By institutionalizing dialogue, the two countries are laying the groundwork for more predictable and structured collaboration in areas such as trade, transport, and regional integration.
The agreements were signed by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti. Their engagement underscores a mutual interest in elevating diplomatic relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
Rwanda and Tunisia already maintain collaboration in several sectors, with transport standing out as a key area of partnership. In February 2020, the two countries signed an air services agreement enabling airlines to operate flights between them, a move that enhanced connectivity and facilitated business and tourism exchanges.
The establishment of a permanent joint commission is expected to build on such initiatives by providing a formal platform to review progress, identify new areas of cooperation, and address emerging challenges. As both countries continue to strengthen ties, the latest agreements reflect a broader trend of increasing intra-African collaboration aimed at fostering economic growth and regional cohesion.
