Kigali 26,April 2026 — The China Medical Team (26th Chinese Medical Mission to Rwanda) has successfully carried out life-saving interventions for two pregnant women facing critical obstetric emergencies at Masaka Hospital, demonstrating exceptional medical expertise and rapid-response capability. Working in close coordination with Rwandan healthcare professionals, the team has applied advanced surgical techniques to stabilize patients in life-threatening conditions, reinforcing a shared commitment to safeguarding maternal and infant health.

In high-pressure scenarios at Masaka Hospital marked by severe hemorrhage and complex diagnoses, the team has introduced innovative suture methods and surgical strategies that have significantly improved treatment outcomes. These interventions have enabled effective bleeding control and preservation of reproductive health, even under constraints such as limited medical supplies and equipment. Their efforts reflect a growing standard of collaborative, patient-centered care within Rwanda’s healthcare system.

The China Medical Team successfully carried out life-saving interventions for two pregnant women

One of the critical cases involved a full-term pregnant woman presenting with symptoms consistent with complete placenta previa and uterine rupture conditions associated with rapid deterioration and high mortality risk. Acting decisively, the medical team performed an emergency delivery within minutes, followed by a complex surgical repair using a combination of advanced compression sutures. Through meticulous technique and adaptability, the team achieved hemostasis and preserved the patient’s uterus, marking a significant success in critical obstetric care.

In another emergency, a patient suffering from retained placenta and placenta accreta required immediate intervention. The team introduced improved surgical approaches, including enhanced uterine suturing and artery ligation methods, to control hemorrhage while maintaining reproductive function. These techniques have helped bridge gaps in local treatment capacity and provided valuable knowledge transfer to Rwandan medical staff.

Since deploying to Rwanda, the 26th China Medical Team has handled numerous high-risk obstetric cases, contributing to both immediate patient outcomes and long-term capacity building. Their continued collaboration with local healthcare providers has fostered the exchange of medical knowledge and strengthened bilateral ties, advancing a shared vision of accessible and high-quality healthcare.

Through sustained dedication and innovation, the team continues to play a vital role in improving maternal health services in Rwanda, underscoring the impact of international medical cooperation in addressing critical healthcare challenges.
