Kigali, April 26,2026 —The 26th China Medical Team to Rwanda has launched a Chinese language program for local medical staff, with the inaugural session held on April 24 at Masaka Hospital. The event took pl in a packed hospital auditorium, where Rwandan healthcare workers from various departments participated actively, filling the room with applause and lively interaction.
Led by team translator Yu Yan, the class focused on practical communication, introducing basic greetings and commonly used medical phrases. Through role-playing, gestures, and interactive exercises, participants practiced pronunciation and real-life scenarios, aiming to improve day-to-day coordination between Chinese and Rwandan healthcare workers.

Beyond language learning, the initiative strengthens professional collaboration by reducing communication barriers during ward rounds, consultations, and surgical procedures. Participants highlighted that the classes also provide insight into Chinese culture and help build closer working relationships with the medical team.
The program underscores the long-standing and cooperative relationship between China and Rwanda. Since 1982, China has consistently dispatched medical teams to Rwanda, contributing to healthcare delivery, skills transfer, and infrastructure support. Over the years, this partnership has expanded from clinical services to broader people-to-people engagement, reflecting mutual trust and shared development goals between the two countries.
Organizers say the Chinese classes will continue regularly, alongside planned activities on traditional Chinese medicine and cultural exchanges. The initiative is expected to further deepen ties, reinforcing both medical cooperation and the enduring friendship between China and Rwanda.
