NEW DELHI, India, July 7, 2026 — Rwanda commemorated the 32nd anniversary of Kwibohora (Liberation Day) with a high-level diplomatic reception in New Delhi, celebrating the country’s remarkable transformation over the past three decades while reaffirming its growing strategic partnership with India.

Hosted by the High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda at Andaz Delhi, Aerocity, the event brought together senior officials from the Government of India, ambassadors, diplomats, business leaders, development partners, members of the Rwandan diaspora, and Friends of Rwanda in a celebration of resilience, progress, and international cooperation.

Kwibohora, observed annually on July 4, commemorates Rwanda’s liberation and the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. It marks a defining moment in the country’s history and serves as a reminder of Rwanda’s journey from tragedy to becoming one of Africa’s fastest-growing and most stable economies.

Delivering the keynote address, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to India, Jacqueline Mukangira, paid tribute to the men and women whose sacrifice secured Rwanda’s liberation, describing their courage as the foundation upon which modern Rwanda has been built.

She said the country’s transformation over the last 32 years has been driven by a clear national vision anchored in unity, resilience, good governance, accountability, innovation, and inclusive development.

“Rwanda’s journey demonstrates what is possible when a nation chooses reconciliation over division and invests in its people,” she said, noting that the country continues to strengthen institutions, improve the quality of life of its citizens, and position itself as a competitive destination for investment and innovation.

The High Commissioner also highlighted Rwanda’s commitment to expanding cooperation with India, describing the relationship between the two countries as one built on mutual respect and shared aspirations for sustainable development. She identified trade, investment, healthcare, education, technology, innovation, and capacity building as priority areas for future collaboration.

Representing the Government of India, Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs, congratulated Rwanda on its 32nd Liberation Day and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

He praised Rwanda’s development trajectory, noting the country’s achievements in governance, economic growth, peace building, and regional stability. Margherita said India values its partnership with Rwanda and looks forward to expanding cooperation across key sectors that support economic growth, skills development, and people-to-people exchanges.

The event also featured remarks from Dr. Saurabh Singhal, Head of the Rwanda Chapter of The Diplomatic Club and an Indian entrepreneur whose business operations are based in Rwanda.

Drawing on nearly two decades of engagement with the country, Dr. Singhal described Rwanda as one of Africa’s most attractive investment destinations, citing its political stability, transparent institutions, efficient public services, and business-friendly regulatory environment.

“India gave me my roots; Africa gave me my wings,” he told guests, reflecting on his journey from first visiting Rwanda in 2005 to establishing healthcare investments in the country in 2019.

He commended the Rwanda Development Board for simplifying investment procedures through initiatives such as the One Stop Centre and Single Window Solution, which have significantly improved the ease of doing business. He also highlighted Rwanda’s investments in digital governance, education, healthcare, and innovation, saying these reforms have positioned the country as a gateway for regional trade and investment.

Beyond economic progress, Dr. Singhal praised Rwanda’s culture of unity and collective responsibility, pointing to Umuganda, the country’s monthly community service programme, as an example of how civic participation contributes to national development.

Describing Rwanda as “not only the Land of a Thousand Hills, but also the Land of a Thousand Opportunities,” he encouraged investors, entrepreneurs, and innovators to explore the country’s expanding economic potential.

The evening concluded with cultural performances celebrating Rwanda’s rich heritage and a reception that underscored the enduring friendship between Rwanda and India. As both countries continue to deepen cooperation, the celebration served not only as a commemoration of Rwanda’s liberation but also as a testament to the growing diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people ties that continue to shape the partnership between Kigali and New Delhi.
